Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump will be the featured attraction tonight when the Palm Beach County Republican Party holds its annual Lincoln Day fundraising dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.
“This will be the most anticipated political bash of the year … The Republican Party of Palm Beach County will be the envy of the entire nation,” said county GOP Chairman Michael Barnett.
The county GOP sold more 650 tickets for the dinner at $300 and up. It was originally scheduled for March 11 — four days before Florida’s primary — but Trump had the event moved so he could campaign in Chicago that night. The Chicago rally ended up being canceled amid security concerns over large protests.
The county GOP has held its last three Lincoln Day dinners at Mar-a-Lago. Trump wasn’t on hand for the 2015 dinner. But in 2014, Trump introduced keynote speaker Ted Cruz, calling him a “special guy” and adding: “He shouldn’t be controversial, because what he’s doing is right.”
